Donald Trump's promise of a swift end to the war will inevitably come with certain losses for Ukraine. However, concrete peace initiatives from the next U.S. president regarding Kyiv have yet to be discussed. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference in Budapest.
The head of state noted that he has had several positive conversations with Trump recently, including a productive meeting in New York in September.
"But they need to be more concrete, and both sides need to prepare for this, in any case. At least two sides," Zelensky said.
According to the Ukrainian president, Donald Trump genuinely desires a quick resolution to end the war.
"Wanting is not the same as achieving. And I have no complaints here. I'm just stating that we are where we are, and we are at war with the Russians. And that is a fact. They are the most challenging enemy of this century," Zelensky emphasized.
The Ukrainian president stated that preparations should be made for any outcome.
"We want a just end to the war. I am confident that a rapid end to the war means losses. I think, if it happens very quickly... I don't know about this idea. We haven't discussed it with President Trump. I believe he will prepare with his team for various proposals. I think all of this is ahead of us. One thing is clear to me, he truly wants an end, but I reiterate and believe that if it is a very quick 'end for the sake of ending'... We all want an end. We very much want a just conclusion," Zelensky emphasized.
Trump's Peace Plan
As reported by UNIAN, Donald Trump has repeatedly reiterated his promise that if he wins the U.S. presidential election, he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours. However, he has never revealed the details of his plan.
In September, following a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in New York, Trump promised that if he wins the election, he will "work something out" aimed at ending the war between Ukraine and Russia even before his inauguration. It is worth noting that the inauguration is set to take place on January 20, 2025.
