The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, responded to the threats made by the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, regarding the potential blockage of EU assistance if Kyiv does not resume the transit of Russian gas. In particular, he reminded about the decision made by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning the export of liquefied gas to Europe.

"A few days ago, President Trump made a strong decision that will significantly increase the export of American LNG, including to Europe. This is essential for security and stability – more energy resources from partners for Europe," – wrote the president on social media platform X.

Zelensky emphasized that American LNG requires payment in cash, while Russian gas demands a cost in terms of independence and sovereignty. He added that many in Europe have already experienced this and "chose to preserve their independence and sovereignty":

"But not Mr. Fico. He opts for Moscow over America and other partners who can provide his country with gas on commercial terms. This is his mistake. Everyone in Europe needs to be forward-thinking and develop relationships that strengthen our nations."

Fico's Threats Over Gas Transit Suspension

The Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, known for his pro-Russian stance, stated after Ukraine's decision to halt the transit of gas from the Russian Federation that Ukraine will never become a NATO member and will face challenges in joining the European Union.

Additionally, Fico called Zelensky the enemy of his state. He demands that Kyiv continue the transit of Russian gas through its territory and plans to discuss this with the European Commission on January 30.
