The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, rules out the possibility of unilateral U.S.-Russian agreements regarding the cessation of the war in Ukraine.
In an interview on ntv, the politician stated that Europe will not allow such a scenario, as it has a voice in matters of the continent's security. There can be no security guarantees without Europeans or "over the heads" of Ukraine, he added:
"We will not allow this as Europeans. We will also not permit anyone to agree that Ukraine should be demilitarized."
Negotiations to End the War
It is worth noting that the administration of the new President of the United States, Donald Trump, recently announced its intention to conduct peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, involving the United States, Ukraine, and Russia.
U.S. Special Envoy Keith Kellogg stated that Europe would not participate in these negotiations, although its interests would be taken into account.
European leaders are outraged and concerned about such a prospect, as they believe it would represent a geopolitical defeat for them and a threat to security.
