The United Kingdom has a positive view of the initiative launched by France regarding the deployment of an international contingent to Ukraine as part of security guarantees. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a comment following the 25th meeting in the "Ramstein" format.
"This initiative was initiated by Macron. The British view it positively. However, I will discuss the details with Prime Minister (Starmer, - ed.) during our meeting. It will take place. He will be visiting Ukraine," the president said.
In his opinion, NATO is the main security guarantee for Ukraine, but along the path to joining the Alliance, it is necessary to have other international agreements as well.
"This initiative could become part of the security guarantees for Ukraine. Certainly, a contingent from a few countries alone will not suffice - I believe that is inadequate. But the fact that this could be a significant component of future security guarantees - yes," Zelensky stated.
He added that there are already substantial decisions made between Ukraine and the United Kingdom, which will be revealed later.
Latest News on Foreign Troops in Ukraine
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that Europe may send troops to Ukraine following a peace agreement from the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump. According to him, the best security option for Ukraine is NATO membership, which President Volodymyr Zelensky has requested.
He believes that if the United States opposes Kyiv's participation in the military alliance, Europe will need to take measures to prevent further aggression from Russia by deploying its troops after the combat operations conclude.
