French President Emmanuel Macron, following an emergency summit with European Union leaders, held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, after which he issued an important warning regarding the ceasefire in Ukraine. He shared details of these discussions on his social media platform X.
Macron emphasized that a stable and lasting peace in Ukraine can only be achieved if Russia ceases its aggression and provides "strong and reliable" security guarantees for the Ukrainians.
"Otherwise, there is a risk that this ceasefire will end up like the Minsk agreements," he stressed.
Macron pointed out that ensuring security guarantees requires collaborative efforts among Europeans, Americans, and Ukrainians, stating that "this is a key point."
He also added that Europeans need to invest more in their own security and defense.
"To this end, Europeans aim to accelerate the implementation of their own program to ensure sovereignty, security, and competitiveness. Work will continue based on the proposals from the European Commission, both in supporting Ukraine and in developing and investing in our defense," he noted.
Summit in Paris
As is known, the meeting of European leaders in Paris included German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
After the meeting, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that European countries are ready not only to strengthen their own security but also to lead the provision of security guarantees for Ukraine.
At the same time, according to Western media reports, the leaders did not reach an agreement on the issue of deploying peacekeeping forces in Ukraine during the summit.
