A potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine may be reached within a few weeks after the elected U.S. president Donald Trump returns to power. This was stated by British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy, as reported by The Sun citing his interview with BBC Radio 4. He also specified that this could happen closer to Easter.

As noted by the publication, on January 9, Lemmy stated that it is "unlikely" that an agreement would be reached by January 21. However, he shared "incredible details about Trump's peace plan," which he believes could come into effect only a few weeks after the inauguration, scheduled for January 20.

"Donald Trump is not yet in power. From what I've seen over the past few days, there are signs of a slight pushback regarding the possibility of an agreement being reached on January 21... I think that right now it is unlikely. And we hear that the timeline has shifted somewhat towards Easter," the publication quotes the British Foreign Secretary.

At the same time, Lemmy told the radio station that he does not yet see "any evidence" that Putin is willing to come to the negotiation table to end the war. He also noted that the era of peace after the Cold War has "ended," and Europe's future security is "on a knife's edge," according to the report.

"The U.S. will try to keep both sides satisfied with an agreement that freezes the conflict exactly where it is now. This will give Russia the territory it has seized, but in return, it will protect Ukraine's borders to prevent any further attacks in the coming years," the publication writes.

Trump's Peace Plan: Latest News

As previously reported by UNIAN, Western media, citing informed sources, wrote that the "peace plan" of the elected U.S. president may involve Ukraine renouncing NATO membership for 20 years and freezing the front line without returning territories. According to sources, Trump does not yet know how he will persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to come to the negotiating table.

Trump's plans in Ukraine face catastrophic failure if there is no new significant aid from the United States in the near future. If that happens, Ukraine will likely lose the war within the next 12-18 months. And Ukraine's defeat would be hard to imagine as anything other than a complete failure for the United States and its president, Donald Trump, the media reported.

MP Alexander Merezhko reported at the end of December, after a visit to the U.S., that the peace plan from newly elected U.S. president Donald Trump is ready or nearing completion.
