The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, "intentionally" stepped outside to embrace Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to London.
Both leaders headed to the Prime Minister's residence at 10 Downing Street for talks that gained particular significance following Zelensky's "unsuccessful" meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump the day before, reports Sky News.
Commenting on the moment of their greeting, the publication states that Starmer wanted this gesture to be seen worldwide.
"Starmer, who, to be honest, is not overly tactile, opened his arms and hugged Zelensky in a way that was meant to be seen globally, especially in the White House. He held the embrace for quite some time, ensuring that everyone—regardless of the opinions of the U.S. President and Vice President—was left in no doubt about which side Starmer had chosen in this conflict," the article notes.
Afterward, the Prime Minister emphasized before the cameras that Zelensky has full support across the United Kingdom and that this country will stand with Ukraine "for as long as it takes."
