The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that it is prohibited to transfer highly qualified personnel from the Air Force to the infantry.
This statement was made by the commander during an interview with military correspondent Andrii Tsaplienko for the "TSN Week" program, the full version of which will air on Sunday evening, January 19.
"First of all, I have issued an order that prohibits the transfer of highly qualified personnel who have undergone training and specialize specifically in aircraft maintenance. These are specialists who have been invested in, who possess experience, and who essentially have no replacements. On the other hand, we have needs at the front. We must adequately increase the number of personnel in our mechanized brigades. Unfortunately, mobilization capabilities do not meet this demand. Therefore, we are implementing measures to reduce our logistical component, the support component, and the maintenance component, but within reasonable limits," Syrskyi noted.
The Commander-in-Chief emphasized that this is being handled by the staffs of Ukrainian units, but the General Staff responds immediately to prevent highly qualified specialists in narrow specialties from being assigned to the infantry.
Transfer of specialists to the infantry
As reported by UNIAN, recently there have been statements from the military of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine regarding their potential transfer to infantry units.
The General Staff responded, noting that this concerns "specific categories" of personnel, while critically deficient specialists in engineering and aviation services will not be transferred.
Shortly thereafter, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he had instructed the commander of the Armed Forces not to reduce the number of specialists that the Air Force needs to carry out combat missions.
