The United Kingdom, following the United States, has imposed direct sanctions against Russian oil giants - the companies "Gazprom Neft" and "Surgutneftegas." This information was reported on the British government website.

It is noted that these energy companies produce over 1 million barrels of oil daily, amounting to approximately 23 billion dollars annually. The revenues from these two companies "fill Putin's war chest and support the war."

"Ensuring the country's security is the top priority of this government and an integral part of the Prime Minister's Change Plan. Every blow we deliver to Russian oil revenues is another step toward a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine, as well as a step toward security and prosperity in the UK and beyond," the statement said.

In London, it is emphasized that oil revenues are vital for the Russian military economy, accounting for about a quarter of the entire Russian budget in 2023. Following the sanctions against these companies, Russia's ability to generate income from the sale of energy resources will be significantly restricted, according to British Foreign Minister David Lammy:

"Oil revenues are the lifeblood of Putin's military economy. We will not allow oil revenues to endanger the lives of Ukrainians, nor will we permit Russia to continue filling its coffers while it threatens our collective security."

According to the diplomat, combating Russian oil companies will deplete Russia's military resources - "and every ruble we take from Putin will help save Ukrainian lives."

"We will continue to work with our allies in the United States to thwart Putin and his barbaric war," Lammy promised.

New Sanctions Against Russia

As reported by UNIAN, on Friday, January 10, the United States imposed extensive sanctions against Russia. The restrictions cover more than 400 individuals and organizations in the Russian energy sector.

In particular, the new sanctions target Russian oil, gas extraction, drilling, and insurance companies, as well as their management.
