The Chinese leader Xi Jinping and the Russian dictator Putin held a phone conversation during which they announced the deepening of cooperation between their countries.

This deepening will encompass political, economic, and energy sectors, analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) indicate in a recent review. "Putin and Xi reiterated standard narratives, emphasizing the strengthening of foreign policy, energy, and economic cooperation between Russia and China," the analysis states.

The analysts added that Putin's assistant, Yuri Ushakov, mentioned that the Russian dictator also discussed the war in Ukraine and the relations of both countries with the United States with Xi, although these topics were not included in the official Kremlin press release.

According to Ushakov, Xi Jinping also informed Putin about his discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump.

It is worth noting that Donald Trump had a phone call with Xi Jinping on January 17.

Conversation Between Putin and Xi

Chinese President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with Russian dictator Putin. This conversation took place four days after the Chinese leader spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump.

During the call, Xi Jinping expressed his "readiness to elevate China-Russia relations to a new height by 2025, countering external uncertainties." Meanwhile, Putin stated that "the joint efforts of Russia and China play an important stabilizing role in international affairs."
