The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, spoke about the outcomes of the emergency summit of European leaders in Paris.

In the evening, he posted on the microblogging platform X that European countries are prepared not only to enhance their own security but also to lead the provision of security guarantees for Ukraine. He did not disclose specific decisions, adding that details need to be clarified:

"Europe is ready and wants to take a step forward. To lead the provision of security guarantees for Ukraine. It is ready and wants to invest much more in our security. The details still need to be agreed upon, but the commitments are clear."

What is known about the summit in Paris

As reported, on February 17, European leaders in France discussed a number of key issues related to the war in Ukraine, security, and the future of the continent.

In particular, the necessity of providing Ukraine with real security guarantees and expanding European defense cooperation was discussed.

On the eve of the summit, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who attended the meeting, stated the readiness to send British troops to Ukraine to ensure the implementation of a potential peace agreement.
