The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, criticized the proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump to link further military aid to Ukraine with access rights to its valuable resources.

Following an informal European Union summit in Brussels, Scholz described such a stance as very selfish, as reported by ntv. According to the German Chancellor, Kyiv should utilize these resources for the reconstruction of the country after the conflict ends:

"These are the main tasks, considering the enormous destruction. Therefore, the country's resources should be used to fund everything that will be necessary after the war."

Exchange of aid for rare earth metals

Recall that earlier, the American leader stated that he wanted to reach an agreement with Ukraine to ensure supplies of Ukrainian rare metals to the U.S.

Sources from RBC-Ukraine in the President's Office reported that the protection and utilization of rare earth resources along with key partners were outlined in President Volodymyr Zelensky's plan.
