Following the scandal involving the 155th Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv, several significant shortcomings were identified during the inspection of the formation process of another new Ukrainian brigade. This concerns the 156th Separate Mechanized Brigade (156 OMB).
As reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the inspection is being conducted by a comprehensive group led by the Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Colonel Oleg Apostol.
"Currently, the military unit has completed the staffing and has begun basic military training based on an updated program. At the same time, personnel selection for professional training is ongoing. The supply of weapons and military equipment is continuing according to the plan," the statement reads.
It is noted that in light of the identified shortcomings, the following tasks have been set:
- replacement of part of the command staff of the brigade and appointment of a commander with combat and practical experience in command positions;
- transfer to the unit of officers and sergeants who have previously participated in combat operations to enhance the combat capabilities of the 156th OMB;
- improvement of the quality of practical training considering the experience of combat operations in the east;
- increased intensity and quality of training for UAV pilots and EW operators.
"It should be noted that the mistakes made during the formation and training of the 155th Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv have been taken into account, and measures are being implemented to prevent them in the future," the General Staff assured.
Scandal with the new 155th Brigade - what was reported
Recall that earlier this year, a scandal erupted due to mass desertion in another new Ukrainian brigade - the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv.
It was reported that this scandal dealt a severe blow to the plans of the Ukrainian authorities to create 14 new brigades trained and equipped by Western allies.
