The new White House administration has reached an agreement with the European Union that they must continue to exert maximum pressure on the Russian Federation.
As reported by Le Monde, citing an anonymous European official, this consensus was achieved during the first phone call between European diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Kallas emphasized the need for increased European investment in the defense sector. Both politicians also discussed the necessity of cooperation regarding Middle Eastern issues and challenges posed by China:
"They agreed on the need to maintain maximum pressure on Moscow to achieve a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine."
Trump Administration's Position on the War
It is known that the new American president promises to end the war between Russia and Ukraine as soon as possible. One element of his plan may involve deploying European troops along the front line.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he looks forward to meeting with Kremlin leader Putin, during which they will discuss ending the war. Already after his inauguration, he mentioned that he would impose new sanctions against the RF if Moscow and Kyiv do not reach a peace agreement.
