Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the United States will postpone the implementation of import tariffs on goods from his country for a month.
In the evening, he posted on the microblog X that he had a "good" conversation with American President Donald Trump. They agreed that Washington would suspend the proposed tariffs for at least 30 days. Meanwhile, Canada is implementing a $1.3 billion plan to secure its borders:
"Strengthening the border with new helicopters, technologies, and personnel, enhancing coordination with our American partners, and increasing resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 military personnel are currently on the front lines working to secure the border."
The U.S. Implements Tariffs
As is known, the United States previously announced the imposition of significant tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico (25%), and China (10%).
Following this, Trudeau warned the country's residents that they should prepare for tough times, promising to take action in response.
According to media reports, the new American leader has already delayed the imposition of tariffs against Mexico. This occurred after the country agreed to send additional forces to the border to combat fentanyl and migration.
