The United States of America has resumed military aid shipments to Ukraine following a brief pause. This information comes from Reuters citing informed sources.
According to the agency, shipments of American weapons to Ukraine were temporarily halted in recent days but were restarted over the weekend as President Donald Trump's administration discussed its policy towards Ukraine. Two sources told reporters that aid shipments resumed after the White House "reversed its initial assessment regarding the cessation of all aid to Ukraine."
An unnamed American official revealed that within Donald Trump's administration, there are factions that disagree on the extent to which the U.S. should continue supplying arms to Ukraine from American reserves.
"Halting American weapon shipments would limit Kyiv's ability to fight and put it in a less advantageous position during peace negotiations. It remains unclear whether the Trump administration will officially acknowledge the suspension and subsequent resumption of shipments," the agency emphasizes.
Since Donald Trump's inauguration, the U.S. has not announced any military aid allocations to Ukraine. At the same time, it was believed that shipments authorized by Joe Biden would continue for months due to delays in schedules. The previously unannounced brief pause represents "the first external sign of the intensity of debates within the Trump administration," the authors note.
"The Trump administration has not sent a clear signal regarding whether it will continue to provide significant military assistance to Ukraine in its fight against a full-scale Russian invasion," the report states.
U.S. Aid to Ukraine: Other News
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he wants to offer Ukraine a deal for military aid in exchange for the country's rare earth metals. Additionally, the American leader accused Europe of not providing enough assistance to Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Reuters reports that throughout 2024, the U.S. has provided Ukraine with only half of the promised military aid for the year and around 30% of the promised armored vehicles. It is noted that these delays coincide with the final months of the previous U.S. President Joe Biden's term, during which Ukraine lost almost all the territory it had regained during the counteroffensive in 2023.
