The elected President of the United States Donald Trump has once again publicly promised to end the war in Ukraine and stated that he will reach out to Russian dictator Putin immediately after taking office.
According to him, he will arrange a meeting with the Kremlin ruler. As reported by CNN, he made these statements at a rally in Washington. "I will end the war in Ukraine, the chaos in the Middle East. I will prevent World War III," Trump declared.
Moreover, sources from the publication added that "Trump has instructed his aides to call Putin right after the inauguration to discuss their meeting in the coming months to end the war in Ukraine."
The publication reminded that during the election campaign, Trump promised to resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours. "But just before his inauguration, there is little to suggest that... the war is nearing its end. Therefore, he will probably break this promise," the publication concluded.
However, journalists detailed that instead, Trump and his team intend to start working on a peace plan as quickly as possible, which could be implemented in the first months of his presidency. This plan includes a personal meeting with Putin.
The publication noted that negotiations between Trump and Putin would represent a "sharp departure from President Joe Biden's approach," who has not spoken to Putin for nearly three years. "Trump sees things differently. His view... is that direct engagement with Putin is exactly what is needed to find a solution that will bring the war to an end," the publication commented.
Additionally, the publication pointed out that it is currently unclear whether Trump plans to continue the existing strategy of providing Ukraine with weapons and intelligence. He has also not announced what security guarantees he might agree to for Kyiv.
