The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is convinced that sufficient pressure can compel Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to halt the war and agree to a just peace. As reported by UNIAN correspondent, this was stated by the spokesperson of the Ministry, Georgiy Tikhiy, at a briefing.
The spokesperson reminded that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky supports Donald Trump's commitment to the well-known approach of "peace through strength" in global affairs.
"We believe that the approach of peace through strength can practically bring closer a just peace for Ukraine," Tikhiy noted.
According to the spokesperson, Zelensky and Trump had an excellent phone conversation on the first day of the Republican's election victory, and this fact speaks for itself. Tikhiy added:
"This proves that both sides value the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the USA."
He noted that Zelensky and Trump maintain a long-term, constructive, and result-oriented dialogue.
"They established contact before the elections and will continue to keep in touch in the coming weeks and months," the spokesperson emphasized.
He stated that Ukraine appreciates the bipartisan support from the USA.
Tikhiy clarified that Ukraine maintains close contact with Trump's team and people from his circle, with his transition team before taking office, and with both parties - Republican and Democratic.
At the same time, more details about future interactions are expected in the upcoming weeks and months.
The spokesperson also reminded that in September, a very detailed and thorough meeting took place in New York between Zelensky and Trump, during which the President of Ukraine presented the victory plan.
"We believe it was very important to express Ukraine's vision on how to end the war justly and how to ensure long-term security not only for Ukraine but essentially for the transatlantic community," Tikhiy said.
In this regard, the diplomat stated that ensuring a fair resolution to the war and a just peace for Ukraine serves the best interests of the USA.
At the same time, he was asked whether the fourth and fifth points of Ukraine's victory plan are tailored to Donald Trump's business-style dealings. Tikhiy explained:
"This is not just for President Trump. In fact, we understand that the plan must be bilateral. Obviously, this is not just about Ukraine asking for something; it is not charity, as Ukraine offers significant added value to transatlantic security."
The spokesperson added that the fourth and fifth points of the victory plan relate to strategic resources and Ukraine's role in European security.
Tikhiy noted that Ukraine is currently the only force that is militarily halting the aggressive revanchist regime of the Russian Federation on the battlefield, as Moscow's aggressive goals extend far beyond Ukraine.
"And the broader question concerns how we ensure long-term security in Europe," Tikhiy remarked.
The representative emphasized that doubling support for Ukraine is the best way to avoid a scenario where the war spills beyond Ukraine's borders.
At the same time, as Tikhiy underscores, Ukraine does not consider exchanging territories for peace.
"I think Putin's goals have not changed. He still thinks in terms of ultimatums, but he steps back when he is forced to do so," the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is convinced.
According to him, with sufficient pressure and strength, not only from Ukraine but also from partners, it is possible to "compel Putin's regime to reduce its military objectives even further and, in fact, accept a just peace." Specifically, Putin understands only the will of power, and that is why Ukraine's victory plan is so important.
Alongside this, the spokesperson believes that there should be more discussion in international discourse about what compromises Russia is willing to agree to.
Zelensky's Victory Plan
As reported by UNIAN, the plan for victory consists of five points and three secret appendices.
In particular, among other things, the fourth point with a secret appendix addresses strategic economic potential. This economic point contains a proposal for international partners - the USA, the European Union, and others - for joint protection of critical resources in Ukraine, joint investments, and utilization of economic potential.
The fifth point of the victory plan is aimed at the post-war period. After the war, Ukraine will have one of the most experienced and largest military contingents, and therefore it is proposed that Ukrainian forces replace certain contingents of the armed forces of the United States stationed in Europe.
