The state energy trader "EKU" is establishing a dedicated division to assist communities with distributed generation – CEO.

The state energy trader, JSC "Energy Company of Ukraine" (ECU), is developing a dedicated division to support the construction of distributed generation in various regions, announced the company's CEO, Vitaliy Butenko.

The state energy trader JSC "Energy Company of Ukraine" ("ECU") is developing a special division to support the construction of distributed generation in the regions, announced the company's CEO, Vitaliy Butenko.

"Currently, we at 'ECU' are establishing a special division that will focus on comprehensive support for the development of distributed generation in the regions (…). In January, we plan to meet with communities to determine a list of common pilot projects for implementation. Once we refine these projects, we will be able to scale this model of cooperation to other communities across the country," said Butenko in a brief interview with "Energy Reform".

According to him, the 'ECU' team, which collaborates with national and foreign investors, already possesses significant experience in supporting new energy projects that can assist communities.

"When we analyzed the issues surrounding the establishment of distributed generation in communities, which bear the key responsibility for critical infrastructure and people, we noticed a much greater demand. Not only for support in the commercial aspect but for complete project assistance, including financial, regulatory, and technical aspects," noted the head of 'ECU'.

Regarding the payment for 'ECU's' services, Butenko indicated that such assistance should not be financially burdensome for communities, but the company's expenses must be compensated.

"Therefore, we see it as our task to provide solutions to communities that will not only ensure their electricity supply but also generate additional income from the operation of the equipment. When the project becomes self-sustaining, it will cover the operational costs for both parties," explained Butenko.

As reported, on December 19, "Energy Company of Ukraine" ("ECU"), the association "CIGRÉ-Ukraine," and the Association of Small Towns of Ukraine (AMMU) signed a memorandum of cooperation in the development of distributed generation in the regions. In October, the head of 'ECU', Vitaliy Butenko, stated that the company aims to occupy the niche of a state operator of distributed generation (DG) to assist municipal enterprises and cities with its launch and operation.
