Denmark has announced a significant increase in defense spending for Greenland following Donald Trump's striking statement about the necessity of incorporating this strategically important island into the United States.

According to the BBC, the Copenhagen government has decided to invest substantial funds to enhance Greenland's security. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated that a "double-digit billion" kroner amount will be allocated for the island's defense — which exceeds 1.5 billion dollars. Some Danish media speculate that this could range from 12 to 15 billion kroner.

The funds will be used to acquire new patrol vessels, long-range drones, and expand the Arctic Command's personnel. Additionally, one of Greenland's main airports will be upgraded to accommodate the latest F-35 fighter jets.

"We haven't invested enough in the Arctic for many years, and now we plan to strengthen our presence," Poulsen said.

Interestingly, the announcement regarding the increase in defense spending for the island coincided closely with Trump's remarks, who believes Greenland is vital for U.S. national interests. However, analysts indicate that the plan to bolster the island's defense has been under discussion for a long time and thus cannot be seen as a direct response to Trump's statement.
